The central participants of ‘Music is In Our DNA’ were three musicians living in Greater Manchester:
· Cecilia Keuffer, who was born in Brazil and lives in Ashton
· Gulcin Bulut, who was born in Turkey and lives in Cheadle Hulme
· Sarah Ampil, who was born in Australia to Filipino parents and lives in Central Manchester
The project was facilitated by British-Malawian musician, writer and producer, Richard Kankondo.
Each participant developed a story and associated songs as part of a short performance responding to the idea of 'the building blocks of Manchester'.
The first performance was at Manchester Museum, which included friends and family members of the participating artists, museum staff and local families involved with the Olympias Music Foundation. The group also performed at 'Rare Diseases Day' (HOME) and at the Manchester Community Festival; around 220 people have attended the performances.
